Who Is Netsouth?

Netsouth Computer Services(NCS) is an Internet/PC consulting firm set up to provide Website design, graphics/image design, ecommerce on-line web store setup, digital image services, web page hosting, web page/site maintenance, virtual vision 360-degree property tours, streaming audio,and general marketing services appropriate to the Internet. Our mission is to assist companies, businesses, organizations and individuals in establishing an effective presence on the Internet. 

Why is there a deposit required to start my project?

A lot of work goes into creating a web site, especially one that is custom designed, as I do mine. I require a deposit so that I can begin work immediately, and ensure that my clients are committed to the project and so that I do not go through the effort of creating the design only to have the project cancelled. 

How long does it take Netsouth to develop a Website?

All Websites are different because of customer requirements. Once the design support material and information is obtained from the customer a Website can take from several days to several weeks to build.

What is a Virtual Server?

Netsouth supports virtual server setup which means that we can establish a home for your Website on our server system and establish a presence on the internet regardless of your needs. We help you register your own domain name, which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Email can be addressed to your domain (e.g., www.yourname.com ). And, with a domain name you can transfer your web presence at any time and never lose your identity since you can take your www.yourname.com with you. The Netsouth Virtual Server Solution allows you to start small and scale upwardto whatever server and bandwidth combination fits your needs. Netsouth server architecture is robust and extremely flexible. Customers can use their Netsouth server solutions for ecommerce, on-line auctions, chat forums, virtual postcards, polls and surveys, live audio and video, secure conferencing, market research, banner advertisements, shopping carts, email (virtual post offices), classified ads, databases, search engines, on-line stores and malls and much more. 

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW?

Yes, you will be able to access the domain name with or without the WWW in front. For example, you can access the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to "www.mydomain.com" as well as "mydomain.com". 

Do you offer dial-up internet access?

No, you will need local Internet access in order to access your Website and retrieve email addressed and sent to your site. Providing a specialized Virtual Server service means that we do not have hundreds of modems to maintain enabling us to devote more time to our customers web presence needs. 

Do you support MS FFrontPageextensions?

Yes, we will insure that the appropriate extensions are installed in your account server directory. Please indicate your need for this support on the online order form or let us know this when you call us to have your account setup. 

Could you tell me more about the MS Front Page Extensions?

FrontPage extensions are CGI programs that provide the server side implementation of FrontPage. FrontPage communicates with the extensions via HTTP using a Remote Procedure Call (RPC). When the server sees the "POST" request addressed to the FrontPage server extensions it simply directs the request to the appropriate CGI program. The extensions implement authoring (uploading/downloading documents, ToDo lists), administration (setting end-user, author, and administrator privileges), and dynamic content (browse-time WebBot components). Without the FrontPage server extensions you will not be able to take advantage of the WebBots that are available through FrontPage. Also, without the extensions you cannot author and administer your web using the tools provided as part of the FrontPage Editor/Explorer package. 

What are some of the limitations of the MS Front Page Extensions?

There are several limitations that you should be aware of if you intend to use FrontPage extensions.
Web size -- This seems to be most critical when a "searchable event" is present in the web (Search, Discussion Forum and Table of Contents). The lengthy process of updating the indices for these functions can lead to the connection timing-out (HTTP 500 Error or 'Server has timed-out').
Disk Usage -- You may create and publish as many child webs as your disk storage space allows. However, for each child web you publish, FrontPage duplicates certain information into indices and hidden files. This adds 'overhead,' increasing the storage space required for your files. Microsoft's documentation notes, "FrontPage's optional full-text search indexes can take up to the same amount of disk space as your textual content."
You might also note the following precautions to take to protect the FrontPage extensions on your site:
  a) Do NOT use the Edit Access or File Manager features found in your Control Panel to set passwords, limit access, set file permissions or delete directories or files in a FrontPage web. This should only be done through the options in FrontPage Explorer.
  b) Do NOT use regular FTP (such as WS_FTP) to upload files to the server when FrontPage extensions are installed. This may corrupt the extensions, disabling the interactive features available with FrontPage.
NOTE:The exception to this is when loading custom scripts to the cgi-bin directory on your site. You need to read closely the instructions relative to uploading custom CGI scripts. 

Can I upgrade from an existing server plan to another one?

Yes.  For example, a Starter Plan account is upgradable to either a Basic Plan or Business Plan.  The administrative upgrade cost for this is $40.00.  If you have been setup with login capability then your Login, and Password will not change. 

Can I check domain name availability?

Yes. You can check domain availability direct from our Website. 

Does Netsouth handle domain registration?

Netsouth will register new domain names with InterNIC for you.  We charge a registration fee for this and we register it in YOUR name. If you have an existing domain we will fill out and send you a modify domain name template to forward to hostmaster@internic.net. When Internic announces the completion of the transfer, there is a 72 hourpropagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site at ncsnet.com until they update their DNS.   During the propagation period persons accessing your site will be going to both sites until all are eventually accessing the new site hosted by Netsouth. The process should be seamless. 

Can I transfer an existing domain name to Netsouth?

Yes. Whether you place an order by telephone or via our feedback form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for Internic to complete the transfer. We will provide you with a temporary directory so that you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site until propagation is complete.  If you experience difficulties getting your domain name modified you can call us or contact us via our feedback form 

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation. 

What is the Netsouth fee for domain registration?

The Netsouth fee is $25.00 to register a new domain name. This is a one time setup fee. Annual renewal for your name after the first year is $35. Experience has shown that the registration process results in a 24-hour turn around time for completion. Once this is completed Netsouth will then configure and setup your domain for immediate use. We then invoice you $35 for the registration of your domain PLUS a registration fee of $25.  

Does Netsouth limit the number of hits I can receive each month?

No. Our experience has shown that 300 to 500 MB/month is more than enough data transfer for 90 (+)% of all Websites and we use it as a bench mark. Depending on the quantity and size of your files, 1000MB could support many thousands of hits per week. 

How do I transfer files to my Website hosting account?

Files must be transferred to your web server hosting account via File Transport Protocol (FTP). If you have a PPP internet account and need FTP software, you can download a program for either the PC or Mac from the IPSwitch site. Internet providers may have a built-in FTP interface. An FTP tutorial is available for first time users on the Netsouth site. 

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages ?

You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your Website at your convenience or have Netsouth do it for you on a monthly basis. 

Can multiple domains point to the same HTML files ?

In general, if you have more than one domain account at Netsouth we can point each domain address to the same HTML files. There is a $45 fee to mirror sites. 

Can I use my account for commercial purposes ?

Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web has become a most efficient and cost-effective means of making information, products and services available to the users of the internet community.  Netsouth Virtual Server secure processing is available FREE using SSL and PGP to provide an environment whereby payment information (such as a credit card number) or confidential information (such as a custom form) can be transmitted from web browser to web server in an encrypted mode. Look for the solid key for secure transaction licensing. 

Can I resell space within my own account ?

Netsouth does not normally allow customers to resell space within their account. Please call us and we will work out a solution with you for reselling based on your individual needs. 

How long has Netsouth been in business ?

Netsouth has been in business since the early 1990s'. We have established a network of Associate Partners and business associates that enables us to provide and customize Internet and computer related services to meet your specific requirements. Our support staff consists of trained technical, network and system professionals. 

What contract and payment terms are available?

We bill in monthly increments for our users and do not require a minimum contract beyond the initial 3-month set-up and hosting fees. In order to avoid having to pass processing and bank fees on to you as our customer we currently do not accept credit card payments. We prefer not to accept credit cards (unless we're setting you up with an E-Commerce on-line store). We do accept personal and business checks. 

Do you offer technical support to customers ?

Yes. We encourage our customers to send email to support@ncsnet.com with questions or concerns about their Website. We are relatively quick to respond to support email around the clock. If we cannot offer a solution to a concern within a reasonable time frame, we will invite you to call us or we'll call you directly. 

How long does it take to set up a new account ?

Orders for account setup will be setup within 1-2 working days, and most times will be done the same day. Once an account is set up an activation notice will be sent you via email including a userid, password, and FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new web site immediately. Domain account users will be given a temporary directory to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or transfer.
