1. What is a Domain Name (Web Address)?
Practically speaking, your Domain Name is your Internet
identity and your online brand. Your customers will remember
this name and use it to find your website, your products
or your services. And since no two parties can ever hold
the exact Domain Name simultaneously, your Internet identity
is totally unique.
Technically, a Domain Name is an addressing construct used
for identifying and locating computers on the Internet.
While computers use Internet Protocol (IP) numbers to locate
each other on the Internet, people find them hard to remember.
Therefore, domain names were developed to permit the use
of easily remembered words and phrases to identify Internet
addresses.
For example, the Domain Name yourcompany.com represents
your company's website. When someone types yourcompany.com
into a Web browser or sends e-mail to someone at yourcompany.com,
the Domain Name System (DNS) translates yourcompany.com
into the IP numbers used by the Internet and provides the
requested website to the person or enures the e-mail message
is delivered to the correct address.

one.

3. What is Web hosting?
In order to establish your online identity with a website,
you'll need the name and number of at least two computers
(known as hosts or name servers), so your customers can
find you on the Internet. You may have these special computers
in your organization, or you may need to arrange for name
service with an Internet Service Provider or Web hosting
company. The kebgroup.com provides hosting plans starting
at $19.95 per month.

4. How much will my hosting provider
charge me to transfer my domain name to use with my new
website?
Most hosting providers do not charge to transfer a new
customer's Domain Name. Please note that ncsnet.com does
not charge for this transfer at all; any transfer charges
that you may incur would come directly from your current
hosting provider.

5. Does you handle domain registration?
Netsouth can register new domain names for you.
We will bill you directly for this service. We charge a
registration fee for this and we register it in YOUR name.
If you have an existing domain we will fill out and send
you a modify domain name template to forward to hostmaster@internic.net.
When Internic announces the completion of the transfer,
there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could
go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should
contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain
from their records and update their DNS record. If you use
this same provider for your Internet access you will not
be able to access your domain site on our server until they
update their DNS. During the propagation period persons
accessing your site will be going to both sites until all
are eventually accessing the new site hosted by Netsouth.
The process should be seamless.

6. How long does it take before
my domain name is active?
Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been
registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes
about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers
must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site
locations. This is called propagation.

7. Does Netsouth limit the
number of hits I receive a month?
The easiest answer is "no", we do not limit the
number of hits you can receive during any given month. Our
hosting plans provide for different Transfer Bandwidth limits
(the number of bytes transferred). For example, the Advanced
Hosting plan comes with 1500MB (1.5 Gigabytes of Transfer
Bandwith). Should an Advanced Hosting plan customer exceed
1500MB during a given month then an additional charge of
$5/500MB/month would be added to their invoice. However,
we would not stop visitors to your site if you exceed the
limit. A 1500MB Transfer Bandwidth will support 10's of
thousands of hits.

8. What is Transfer Bandwidth?

9. How do I transfer files to my
web site?

Mac from the IPSwitch site. An FTP tutorial is available
in the Netsouth Members Area.

10. Will I have unlimited access
to update my pages?
You have unlimited access via FTP 24-hours a day. As such,
you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer
and upload files to your web site at your convenience or
have Netsouth do it for you on a monthly basis.
